Vendredi passé, Adil Charkaoui, Mohammad Mahjoub, Mahmoud Jaballah, Hassan Almrei et Mohamed Harkat ont été informés que des nouveaux certificats de sécurité avaient été émis contre eux, en vertu de la toute nouvelle loi des certificats de sécurité. Joignez-vous à nous MERCREDI pour une manifestation d'urgence contre les nouveaux certificats de sécurité et pour exiger que le gouvernement : 1. libérer immédiatement, sans conditions, les cinq détenus des certificats de sécurité ; 2. leur accorde un procès juste et ouvert, si des preuves existent vraiment contre eux ; 3. abolisse les certificats de sécurité ; 4. mette fin aux procédures de déportation contre les détenus des certificats de sécurité et mette fin à la déportation vers la torture ; 5. cesse son utilisation raciste des communautés musulmanes, arabes et autres communautés ciblées comme des boucs émissaires.En 2007, après des années de contestation populaire contre le certificat de sécurité, la Cour suprême du Canada a déclaré que cette mesure était inconstitutionnelle. Le gouvernement a répondu de manière scandaleuse en introduisant une nouvelle loi pratiquement identique à l'ancienne et qui ne répondait à aucune des demandes soulevées par la campagne populaire. Malgré une forte opposition et malgré l'opinion avancée par presque toutes les organisations juridiques au Canada comme quoi la nouvelle loi n'était pas plus constitutionnelle, le gouvernement, avec l'appui des libéraux, a forcé son adoption en toute vitesse par la Chambre des communes et le Sénat. Le gouvernement s'en sert maintenant pour continuer de punir les détenus des certificats de sécurité, qui ont déjà passé plusieurs années en prison ou en détention à résidence, sans accusations ni procès, sous la menace d'une déportation vers la torture. On Friday, Adil Charkaoui, Mohamed Harkat, Mohammad Mahjoub, Hassan Almrei and Mahmoud Jaballah received notice that a new security certificate was issued against them, under the government's bran new security certificate law. Join us WEDNESDAY in an emergency protest of the new security certificates and to demand that the government: 1. Immediately release the five detainees from prison and from all conditions; 2. Provide them with a fair and open trial, if any case against them actually exists; 3. Abolish the security certificate process; 4. Stop deportation proceedings against the security certificate detainees and End deportations to torture; 5. End the racist scapegoating of Muslim, Arab and other targeted communities. In 2007, after years of popular outcry against the so-called security certificate, the Supreme Court of Canada ruled that the legislation was unconstitutional. Outrageously, the government turned around and introduced new legislation that was almost identical to the old law, and which failed to address any of the concerns of the popular campaign. Despite strong opposition, and despite the opinion of almost every legal organization in Canada that the new law was not even constitutional, it was railroaded through the House of Commons and Senate with the support of the Liberal party and adopted as law. The government is now using the new law to keep punishing security certificate detainees who have already spent years and years in prison or under house arrest without charge or trial, under threat of deportation to torture.
